    Guys i took a vid of the rattle. Sorry was not sure how to embed a video;

    Was going to replace the tensioner first, see if that helps and take it from there.

    What do you guys reckon?

    Havent driven the car much lately but after taking it for a quick drive today I'm pretty convinced the rattle is more sinister than just the timing chain.

    However the timing chain tensioner rocked up so had a go putting it in tonight.

    IMG_4580_zpsc2142d34.jpg

    What troubled me was that when I compared how hard the two were to compress it seemed the new one was a lot easier...

    Anyway its in now but I haven't yet popped off the cam cover to unclip it after it was compressed for install.

    Fingers crossed this is the issue otherwise I am concerned the engine will need to come out  :cry:

    Engine & Gearbox is out!

    IMG_20141229_083217_zpspieog4ml.jpg

    The Oil cooler/pressure/temp probes were prob the biggest issue. Ended up having to undo them at the actual cooler and getting the two probes out of the filter adapter plate was really tricky as the lines would not rotate easily.

    Now that its out I need to seperate the gear box from the engine, remove the clutch/flywheel and mount it to an engine stand.

    If anyone has one they wanna sell me then let me know otherwise ill prob be going to super cheap today to pick one up!

    Got the gearbox and clutch separated from the engine.

    This morning I pulled off the oil pan and the Main Bearing Beam.

    DSC_1981_zps038e2ee2.jpg

    DSC_1984_zps92f5b862.jpg

    There was a lot of gunk in the beam.....thinking that an oil flow problem may be the cause of the noise....

    Haven't got to the Main Bearing Caps yet. I Haven't pulled off the ancillary gear (power steering pump/ac pump etc) so i think they need to come away first before I can actually pull the caps off and get a look at the bearings....

    Any advice or guidance would be appreciated  :)  Im currently following the s14 service manual/ Shanes SR20DET budget rebuild thread hahahaha

    Got the caps off the main bearings.There was some scoring but from what I have seen in the past the scoring was very minor.

    DSC_1993_zpsf4039354.jpg

    Next came the big end bearings of the conrods. They were coming up good until #3 came off

    20141230_140510_zps3pja69t6.jpg

    Was a lot of dis-colouration and the bearing surface was all roughed up.

    Now I'm not sure what to do from here......Basically my options are;

    1. Replace the big end bearings of the Con rods only to avoid having to remove the crank shaft. Put it all back together and hope it works
    2. Get a replacement motor
    3. Continue to pull the motor down and replace the head gasket/piston rings/all bottom end bearings

    Time is a bit of a factor here so I am kind of leaning towards option 2. I can then take my time and rebuild this motor....

    any ideas guys?

    You're an engineer ? I came with him to look at it in Shenton Park.

    Anyhow.

    E85, Link Ecu, more boost, catch can, fixed up the leaking clutch master, moved oil cooler after it broke hitting the ripple strip at barbs, ETS pro

    over 600 hp from memory.

    yeah im a pretengineer....

    oil cooler was in a terrible spot, was going to make a scoop for it to attach for track days but sounds like that would have been a terrible idea.

    Why he change the Ecu? power fc cant deal with e85? So was just e85 + tune  + boost for an extra 200hp? daym..... :thumb:
