    That's amazing.

did the compressor wheel fail as well? if so id guess the turbo farked the engine......if the exhaust wheel fails is there anyway it can be sucked into the engine?

Yeah I am also confused... The pic is not a rooted turbine wheel, not comprrssor.how is it linked to the engine damage?

Im no engine expert so i don't know whats happened. To me it looks like parts of the ceramic wheel have somehow ended up in the cylinders & scratched the bores. The compressor wheel stull looks to be ok but the shaft has some resistance & dosent spin freely.
Ether way the engine & turbo are both rooted & will be replaced/upgraded

Over the next couple of nights I will try to remove the pistons & see if it was caused by something else I'll post pics when I get them out.

If the compressor wheel fails = chances of getting into engine through fmic? Pretty slim I would think but possible.

If the turbine/exhaust wheel fails = wouldn't bits just collect into the cylinder? That would frack it badly.

Yeah either way it's all rooted.

Had a think. As it looks like exhaust wheel damage only is it possible that bits broke off inside the motor (valves say) then were pushed out the exhaust and damaged the exhaust wheel on the turbo?

All the valves are still there some are just jammed open could it be bits of piston rings?

Guess you wont know that till you pull it down and see if bits of piston rings are missing.

Its good to figure out what went wrong tho. Without doing it there is a possibility that you wont fix the underlying problem when you rebuild and will damage the motor again.

I have actually heard of RB26 in particular sheetting exhaust wheels, and back pressure blowing bits of broken turbine wheel back into the engine. Never personally seen it, but it would definitely cause the damage you are describing.

Not good either way :( Not an overly difficult engine to rebuild, be a good learning experience!

EDIT: This post regarding lifting off under heavy decel at the point of turbo failure does make a degree of sense in regards to parts of the shattered turbine wheel being sucked back into the engine. Id say you just got unlucky dude.

Does make you wonder. R32 GTR engines are getting quite old now and any turbine wheel failure = engine rebuild lol

    Running stock boost too?

I would have lifted off as it failed so that makes sense.
Running about .6bar so not far off stock.

    Pic of the scratched bores

I picked up a new built engine today

It has wiseco forged pistons, eagle rods, kelford cams(272's i believe),metal head gasket,  N1 oil pump & 1 bad valve due to an incorrectly installed valve guide.

Over the next 6 months I will replace the valves with jun 1mm over sized valves  & guides put in a new gasket kit reassemble it & stick some new  -5 turbos on the side then nistune & corn juice with flex fuel

    looking good Phill!

Ever think about running a big single instead? I had a gt35 with a .64 trim on my rb26 and it was just as responsive as a set of twins but just a lot easier to deal with.

After looking on ebay at work this morning a gt35 kit is looking like a cheaper option by the time I upgrade manifolds & dump pipes so I might go that direction.

Wow, that's much cheaper than i thought. Makes me consider going forged in the s15 when i eventually blow that up.

I'd say go twins, but i guess it really does depend on how much money you have to work with.

That's a big reason people go single. Cheaper and easier to play with when things aren't working.

I personally like the twin turbo, but I I can see how it's a pain in the ass
