    Hello Friends,

Today i will tell you about my 180sx, i took her off the road about 6 years ago to put a vq30det into it and thus far i have not finished it.

    ...wait

not that one,  the other one.

So i bought another 180sx as i was sick of not driving the “vq project” one and i really wanted to do some skids.

I bought this teal one, sight unseen and it was delivered to my house.

I won't go on about how much that was a sheet idea, what i will do is quickly list everything i've done to it in the last couple of months.

cleaned it, looks like someone threw up into the carpet and never cleaned it.

removed the Tiens with chopped springs and installed stock suspension

    New water pump.

    New eBay china radiator (ASI)

New Powered By Max Intercooler Kit

New clutch master, slave and braided line.

    secondhand full 3" exhaust system

    Installed turbosmart boost gauge

Turbotech eBay boost controller - 12Psi

removed rear ebay special lights that were painted over and installed stock ones.

installed other 180sx front bar with working indicators

    installed seats

installed GKtech solid engine mounts (turbo side was broken)

swapped 3.9 LSD diff for my 4.3 ratio 2 way diff

    Full service

by about this stage i was ready to drive it, so we went of to the drags.

both runs i did the car was misfiring and acting up, returning from the second run we got a nice spun bearing noise...so the car was straight onto the trailer.

so the engine came out and went to the mechanic.

the next day it was ready to go again, new bearings installed, no crankshaft damage.

while the engine was out :

    fixed a broken exhaust stud

fitted an oil sandwich plate, for pressure gauge

installed a heater hose bypass made by josh (metalcraft)

installed a GKtech water temp neck adapter.

installed brand new s14 water neck

installed braided lines for turbo water

installed GKtech pivot ball (stock was snapped and barely hanging in)

installed GKtech solid steering shaft spacer

    Seam Welded the engine bay

    Installed engine

    Installed a Fuel pressure gauge

    Installed the oil pressure gauge

    Installed GKtech bash plate

Test drove the car and it was still acting up, no bearing noises just the sheet running on load.

Static pressure from the fuel pump was showing fine, but i couldn't check running pressure...

as i had a brand new walbro sitting there, i installed it.

car was running and driving fine.

it was at this point i installed a full roll cage and some rally tyres, loaded her up and took her to the farm for some skids.

for those who are unaware, we have a dirt racetrack

Car went great, minus the exhaust falling of and the turbo gasket blowing out...but there is a plan to fix and improve!

I already have a highmount mani, 45mm turbosmart gate, 1000cc injectors & Garrett 3082, so these will be going on the car sometime soon - so stay tuned.

I have way too many pics to embed here, so i put them here.

Pics of when i got it :

The VQ30det is from a nissan Cima, its an all alloy 3l V6 with a single turbocharger.

Steve from Maytech imports them and does adaptor plates etc for them.

Haven't done much since last update.

shes still got all the mud in her from the farm, haven't even cleaned it out.

Removed the turbo, only had two bolts holding it in and the gasket was gone.

Exhaust was held in by the turbo and one rubber mount - rest have gone missing + broken.

Nut for the engine mount has loosened itself of and was about to fall off

Test fitted the "new" secondhand high mount manifold i have.

Had to remove the gate flange and weld in a new one (Was for a 48mm gate, i have a 45mm gate)

played around with starting the exhaust and making the screamer pipe.

ordered a few more fittings for the water/oil lines.

ordered a High mount fuel rail + Fittings.

Sent the ecu back to Nistune, to have the Feature Pack firmware update + purchase the HPX airflow meter they use.

    God dam sun

    7LAVeEch.jpg

Mockup, pitty cant go in a cams event with a bonnet exiting exhaust :(

    svSa3yKh.jpg

    6MwG0elh.jpg

so for now, waiting on parts and need to make stuff.

few more things have happened, but ill summarize.

High mount Gt3082 fitted, with turbo-smart 45mm gate.

Had the first start, with stock afm/injectors - to check for leaks and everything looked good.

    6BCrXOTh.jpg

the "Hater Pipe" was far to loud and annoying and i'm getting to old for this sheet, so i made up a proper dump pipe and connected it to the rest of the exhaust.

went to change over the rally tires, to street tires for a test drive and this happened

spoiler alert, both rear bearings are fracked.

ended up getting some secondhand ones, as a quick fix as i had places to be, instead of upgrading to 5 stud (already have most of the gear).

    SuxauWyh.jpg

Test drive was a mild sucess, gate was connected incorectly and not opening.

Quick fix and it was off busting 7.5 PSI @ 4600RPM.

next step involves getting an intake pipe made to suit the HPX air flot meter.

Josh from Metalcraft marine knocked this sexy pipe up for me.

    kEqsdPJh.jpg

and as of right now the car is with the mechanic to have my Springs + Cams installed.

Once that;s sorted its time to change the injectors, fit the new AFM, put it on the dyno and feed it some corn juice and more boost.

So stay tuned for more Sr noises.

Nistune recommend its tuned in a different way to non FP. I had trouble when i had my car tuned because it was done the old way and i ended up reflashing it and doing it myself the recommended way and it ran heaps better.

Ill have to double check my notes when im on the pc later.

I have done all the nistune reading and got advice from Matt directly on how to get the car started...

I only want to run it for a bit to see if there is any leaks etc etc

as for the tune its booked in at Hyperdrive in a couple of weeks time.

Im just getting at that you should to the tuner and make sure they know how to do it with the FP so you dont end up with a poop tune and have to go back like i have to:)

This weekend, didn't get much done.

Picked up the car from the mechanic, who installed the HFM 264 cams along with some tomei springs. Has a nice little lumpy idle now.

Changed the gate over to a 14.7 spring setup.

Wired in the HPX N1 Maf

Changed the fuel lines to ethanol compatible fuel lines.

Flushed the fuel tank and then filled it with E85

installed turbosmart 1200 fuel pressure regulator.

went to install the proflow fuel rail and some injectors i had lying around. Turns out the proflow fuel rail wants 3/4 length injectors and the ones i have are 1/2 length.

I have ordered some CNC spacers, i hope will arrive before the weekend.

I ordered a innovative lc2 wideband from Amazon, but when it arrived it had a crack in the control unit case, so i didn't use it....waiting on the replacement unit to arrive...with any luck that will arrive before the weekend to..

hopefully all falls into place, so i can finish it on the weekend and it will be ready for tuning on Monday.

I picked up some ls coils, so if i get enough time ill try to install them too.

I was going to refloor my trailer, but ran into a snag when i found out my trailer was more rust than trailer.

So in an attempt to reframe it

that's whats taken away most of my time recently.

Update time, So after a huge dick around with the injectors i actually missed my tuning appointment and had to reschedule.

I wont go into to many details, but the injectors would not stop leaking from the top seals.

    That's all sorted.

Widebands Installed, have driven the car around the backyard On E85 with the new injectors Etc installed.

Car is due to be tuned next week....

Trailer is still a work in progress, but its done and useable.

I take it you built the trailer, yeah? How hard is it to get it rego'd? I'm considering building a trailer of my own.

Looks like he just resurrected an old trailer Iz. So much easier than building from scratch.
