Hi all,

I just recently swapped in a manual sr20det package with external coilpacks to replaced the auto sr20de.

The package consists of Bosch HEC715's and a Microtech X4, and came with the same loom and ecu that the previous owner used.

Everything seems to be plugged in correctly and the same as how the previous owner had them. The car cranks, however it does not turn over.

I checked the voltage across the coilpacks and they are not receiving any power/spark.

Ive tried swapping the terminals in which the Microtech and coilpacks were attached to (although I've seen the polarity across the coilpack doesn't matter [no + or - on either terminal]) and still no luck.

I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with this setup and could think of anything it could be?

Ive searched the internet thoroughly but could not find any related information (If someone does know somewhere please link me)

Thanks.

Hi everyone,

After owning the 180 for almost a year, I had originally planned to sell it off and upgrade to an S15. I wanted to start off fresh and keep it as stock as possible, with a few suspension and cosmetic modifications here and there. However after weighing up the options with cash and uni coming up soon, i decided to save the 13-17k I was willing to spend on a stock s15, and build a (hopefully) clean s13.

Studying Engineering, I knew that i would have hardly any shifts at work and income would be low. I spent hours changing my mind and deciding how to go about things in terms of either buying a SR20DET s13, or a N/A s13 and doing a swap with either an RB or SR. I came to a conclusion that it would be a lot cheaper to buy an N/A s13 and do the swap myself, as opposed to buying a DET. In doing so, it would hopefully allow me to get the car to how I want it, and leave some cash left over that i could play around with.

After looking at many s13's, I found this two tone on gumtree. It had barely any details in the advertisement and some crappy photos - all i knew was it was SR20DE and Auto. After the 1 Hour drive to look at it, I realised that the photos didn't do justice. The body was straight, no dents, no faded paint ( even on the roof ) and was overall a decent car. The only bad points I could find were the pealing clear coat on the bonnet and some unknown substance on the front bar, along with grill being a bit ratty. The interior wasn't too great either, but i knew i would be replacing most anyway (seats, steering wheel etc.)

Having always being a fan of Nigel from ETS and his two tone, and especially the 'Two Tone' film on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJXQCcNlVcI), I knew it would be perfect base to start off with, and for the price I couldn't really complain at all.

Within one hour of selling the 180, I went and picked up the 1992 Q's S13.

My mate caught a pretty good picture on the way home (iPhone spec)

However, I did have to wait until morning to get some better pictures:

Things will progress quickly, so watch this space. Ive already ordered a few things but generally over the next few weeks these things will be happening:

5 stud conversion
Wheels
Coilovers
Engine and transmission swap
Remove HICAS
GTR sway bar
LSD
Camber, toe, caster arms
S15 dash (hopefully)
Boost, water temp, oil temp, oil pressure gauges
Buckets
Battery relocation
Upgraded fuel pump
Roof wing
GTR style grill
Brick headlights ( or HID's )
3" exhaust + decat
De-spoilered
New door cards
Some dish steering wheel
Fix paint on bonnet

I will most likely find things to do along the way, but that's all I can think of for now.

Ive already ordered my wheels - XXR 521's 18x10 +25 all round with a 3.5' lip, but i will most likely get spacers for the rear depending on how it looks. I know they're fakes, but i do not intend to keep them for long. Once I've done most of what i plan to do I will sell them off and get genuine wheels, unsure what yet, but it will most likely be VS XX's or similar. I needed something cheap which still looks good, and in silver the 521's do just that IMO.

(same size and colour)

Engine wise (unless someone does convince to go down the RB route within the next few days), I will be picking up a redtop SR20DET engine and box package next week. It consists of (taken from ad):

- HKS GT-RS .64 rear
- HKS stage 1 cam shafts, 264 10.0/10.5
- Nistune + z32 afm
- Bosch HEC715 external coils
- MicroTech X4
- Turbosmart 38mm Ultragate
- Nismo 740cc injectors
- FMIC and piping
- NISMO lightweight flywheel
- Exedy Heavy duty 3-puk
- SR20 g/box

I plan to put it in as soon as I can, but i do need to source manual conversion bits first.

That is pretty much it for now. If you do have anything for sale that i have stated above, please give me a PM or text on 0435848631. I will be doing a wanted thread tonight to see if anyone has this stuff laying around, but if not i will be ordering them new.

Thanks for reading,

Doug.

Went over pits today at kelmscott and failed.

'Permit for engine mods - turbo' was one of the defects requiring attention.

Currently run a 6 boost lowmounted with a t2871r. No external gates or screemers.
Car is type x so its registered with a det and current engine is det.

My mate said he is wrong and is what i thought as well.

Should i call up and question it or just ignore it?
Was only given 7 extra days
Thanks

Hey guys,

Ive been on here for awhile now and decided to do one of these build threads.
My names Doug and i bought this at the start of the year. Mechanically is was great but the body was pretty rough (dents, cracks in kit), but for what I paid I cant complain.
Its a 97' Type X 180sx, but for some reason the previous owner decided to get rid of the Type X kit *sigh*

Specs when i got it:

Blacktop SR20DET (New engine with 55000km)
S14 Gearbox
T2871r
6 Boost
GReddy 550cc injectors
FMIC
Full 3" exhaust
Boche fuel reg
Boche fuel pump
Pivot boost, water temp, oil temp and oil pressure gauges
GReddy boost controller
GReddy Informeter
Tanabe sustec pro coilovers
Relocated oil filter
Nistuned
TE37 reps 17x7 235/45 all round

Pics:

Dyno sheet provided from previous owner.

Being a student, I don't really get a lot of income to spend on the car, but slowly Im getting it to where i want it to be.

First thing i did was bought a 350mm suede dish steering wheel with ebay bosskit:

Stole my girlfriends dildo:

Then chucked them on

The first major thing i wanted to buy was wheels, as I'm sure majority of people wouldnt want 'Vork Ravs' with retarded offset on their car.
I looked at a lot of different wheels, but when every wheel I took fancy to only came in 5 stud, I did the most original, never done before, thing any Silvia owner could do:

Gunmetal with 18x9.5 +15 front, 18x10 +12 rear

Also picked up some 25mm front fenders from Goodie

Fitted:

The rears poked a lot so i got those flared and rolled, and its how it sits now. The fronts sit nicely but the rears need to be dropped a bit more to get rid of the wheel gap.

I just recently bought these from Roleystoner and should be on shortly once i get the decat pipe section sorted

Thats pretty much it for now, once i get more money saved i plan to get it re-tuned and to get the ugly kit sorted.
But again, being a student means making enough money to get this done quickly is hard, but in time it will all happen.
Thanks for looking smile.gif

Hey guys,

So i bought a momo deep dish and ebay spec bosskit and fitted them lastnight.
Was a bit of a hasstle with removing the airbag but i got it back together and looked fine.

However, as i went to take it for a drive, i noticed that the steering was very stiff and it barely re-alligned itself after corners. Indicators still worked.

Ive already searched through the forum for a thread on this but feel free to rant/sigh and tell me to look harder

Could this be the bosskit or did i do something wrong when i installed it?
Any help would be appreciated.

Note that the stock steering wheel worked perfectly (not stiff at all) before i installed the new one.

Thanks
